H25 – 2.5” HED Full Range Speaker Pairs
R860,00 Inc Vat.
Description
The Cerwin Vega H25
is classified as a “full–range” speaker because it is engineered to reproduce the widest possible band of the audible frequency spectrum using a single acoustic driver, rather than relying on a crossover network to split the signal between separate woofers and tweeters.
The Single–Driver Point Source
Unlike a coaxial speaker (which mounts a small tweeter on a center pole above the woofer) or a separated component set, the H25 relies entirely on a single responsive treated paper cone and a strontium ferrite magnet.
The cone is designed to be lightweight and rigid enough to oscillate rapidly for high frequencies, while a UV–treated foam surround allows enough excursion (movement) to produce mid–bass. Because all frequencies emanate from this single moving mass, you avoid the phase alignment and timing delays that can sometimes complicate complex, multi–stage component setups where the tweeter and mid–bass drivers are mounted in different locations.
Frequency Spectrum Coverage
To be marketed as full–range, a speaker must cover the critical frequencies of human hearing. The H25 has a stated frequency response of 83Hz to 20kHz.
The Highs (Up to 20kHz): It handles the high–frequency treble that usually requires a dedicated
soft-dome or metal tweeter.
- The Mids: The 2.5–inch surface area is highly efficient at reproducing the vocal range, guitars, and
snare drums with clarity.
- The Lows (Down to 83Hz): The driver captures the upper mid–bass, filling in the warmth of the audio track.
Multi–Stage System Integration
In practical applications, these 4–ohm drivers are primarily designed as drop–in replacements for factory dashboard or A–pillar locations in vehicles like Fords, GMs, and Jeeps.
While they handle a “full range” of sound on their own, physics dictate that a 2.5–inch cone with a Free Air Resonance (Fs) of 349Hz cannot move enough air to produce sub–bass. In a properly designed, multi–stage sound system upgrade, you would actively cross these drivers over with a high–pass filter and rely on a dedicated subwoofer enclosure to take over the heavy lifting below that 80 to 100Hz threshold. Relieving the small H25 from trying to play sub–bass frequencies dramatically reduces distortion and increases the overall headroom of the system.
